# Expressing the Future: Will and Going to

Para **expresar **el** futuro en inglés, **habitualmente utilizamos el ***Future Simple*** o *futuro simple*, aunque existen más formas verbales para expresarlo, como ***Going To*  (be going to form) **y el ***Present Continuos** *o *Present Progressive*.
El ***Simple Future*** o ***Future Simple*** equivale a nuestro [futuro imperfecto](http://www.wikilengua.org/index.php/Futuro_imperfecto_de_indicativo) en castellano (*Mañana no iré al colegio porque es fiesta*). En inglés se forma utilizando el verbo auxiliar **Will**.

### **Formación del Simple Future o Future Simple**

#### **Affirmative form**

Subject + will (shall) + verb (infinitive without to)
Habitualmente contraemos el sujeto + will (or shall). *Examples (Ejemplos):*
**

***– I’ll **give you my number… (Te daré mi número).*

*– I **will **give you my number (Te daré mi número).***

*– I **shall** give you my number (Te daré mi número). *
*– I’ll take a taxi (Cogeré un taxi).***
NOTA:** ***Shall*** lo utilizamos en la primera persona del singular y del plural:

*I will /shall …
You will …
He/She/It will …
We will (shall) …
You will …
They will …*

#### **Negative form**

Subject + will + not (won’t) verb (infinitive without to)

*– It **won’t **(will not) rain tomorrow, for sure! (No lloverá mañana, ¡seguro!)*

#### **Interrogative form**

Will + Subject + verb (infinitive without to)

***– Will **you come to the party tonight? (¿Vendrás a la fiesta esta noche?)*

#### **Negative Interrogative form**

****

Will not (Won’t)  + Subject + verb (infinitive without to)
*
– Won’t he play guitar with his band? (¿No tocará [él] la guitarra con su grupo?)*

### **Usos del Simple Future (Futuro simple)**

Usamos el futuro simple o *Simple Future *en las siguientes situaciones:

**1.- **Para realizar una predicción de futuro, que puede ser también una opinión personal. *Examples (Ejemplos): *
**

*– I think it will snow tomorrow. (Creo que nevará mañana)*
*– She’ll be happy to see you, after so many years! (Ella estará contenta de verte, ¡tras tantos años!).*
**

**2.- **Para hablar sobre un hecho futuro. *Examples (Ejemplos):* 
**

*– I’ll be 47 next October. (Cumpliré 47 el próximo octubre)*
**

*– Next year will be 2015. (El próximo año será 2015)*
**

 **3.-** Para expresar una intención futura o decisión, hecha a menudo en el momento en el que estamos hablando. *Examples (Ejemplos):
*
*– I’ll open the door, don’t worry. (Abro yo la puerta, no te preocupes)*
*– At the restaurant: I’ll have a soup and a steak, please. (En el restaurante: Tomaré una sopa y un filete, por favor).*

### **Going To **

****

Otra forma de expresar el futuro en inglés es **Going to**, que**  **equivale a nuestro «*ir a hacer algo*«. Utilizamos **going to** para **expresar una intención futura, un plan o una decisión tomada antes del momento de comunicarla**, de decirla. *Examples (Ejemplos): *
*
– I’m going to France next week. (Me voy a Francia la semana que viene).*
*– What are you going to do in England? I’m going to learn English. (¿Qué vas a hacer en Inglaterra? Voy a estudiar inglés).*
*– I’m going to the shops to buy some coffe. Do you want anything? (Me voy a comprar (de tiendas). ¿Quieres algo?).*
